Socrates: Yes. The development record is ready to become a companion document titled:

Eskesthai Media Player — Technical Specifications and Development Roadmap
Version 1.0.1 · November 3, 2026

It will preserve:

  • Original design principles.
  • Version 1.0.1 improvements.
  • Five-track carousel specifications.
  • Testing record.
  • Proposed future features.
  • Applications for other WordPress sites.
  • GPL open-source intentions.

I can preserve the document structure and content for that purpose.

Development Record — Version 1.0.1

November 3, 2026

1. Purpose of this update

Version 1.0.1 extends the original Eskesthai Media Player while preserving its basic purpose: providing a lightweight, adaptable audio player that uses the WordPress Media Library as its source.

The player is intended to be useful beyond Eskesthai. Other WordPress site owners should be able to apply their own identity and organize their own audio collections without modifying the plugin’s source code.

2. Improvements introduced in Version 1.0.1

A. Site identity and logo

  • Select a logo directly from the WordPress Media Library.
  • Replace the default player emblem with the site’s own logo.
  • Change or remove the logo through plugin settings.
  • Use the WordPress site title and tagline for site-specific identity.
  • Retain a neutral default emblem when no logo is selected.

B. Single audio player

  • Retains the original single-player shortcode.
  • Supports MP3 files from the WordPress Media Library or a supplied audio URL.
  • Provides playback, pause, volume and playback-speed controls.
  • Displays track title and audio duration.

C. Progressive music carousel

A new shortcode supports larger audio collections without presenting every track at once.

Current design specifications:

  • Five tracks per initial group.
  • Ten-minute staging interval for the next group.
  • Manual Next group control.
  • Sequential playback through the collection.
  • Cycling back to the beginning after the final group.
  • WordPress Media Library attachment IDs identify the tracks.
  • The player streams the selected audio rather than downloading the entire collection in advance.

The ten-minute interval stages the next group of track references; it does not download five complete audio files.

Carousel shortcode example:

3. Development and testing

The first five-track test collection consists of:

  1. Beyond the Known Geometry — 12730
  2. Where’s the Point — 13217
  3. The Ring That Remembers — 13268
  4. The Emerald Tablet — 13362
  5. The Alchemist of Light — 13360

Testing is intended to verify:

  • Logo display and site identity.
  • Audio loading and duration recognition.
  • Playback and control operation.
  • Sequential track transitions.
  • Manual carousel advancement.
  • Timed staging of subsequent groups.
  • Behaviour on iPad/iOS and Windows browsers.

Status: Live testing in progress. Individual functions must be verified before Version 1.0.1 is considered fully tested.

4. Further specifications and possible improvements

The following are proposed development areas, not features claimed to be complete.

Playlist management

  • Create named collections and playlists.
  • Reorder tracks without editing shortcode text.
  • Add and remove tracks through a WordPress administration interface.
  • Support collections organized by subject, author, date or archive category.

Track information

  • Optional descriptions and accompanying text.
  • Artist, composer, speaker and source information.
  • Links to related articles and archival entries.
  • Optional individual cover images.

Accessibility

  • Keyboard-accessible controls.
  • Screen-reader labels and accessible player status.
  • Clear playback and loading indicators.
  • Transcript and caption support where appropriate.

Diagnostics and reliability

  • Identify missing or inaccessible audio files.
  • Report loading and playback errors.
  • Improve handling of unavailable media.
  • Test performance with large collections.
  • Provide clear fallback behaviour when JavaScript or browser audio support is unavailable.

Additional media

  • Investigate MP4 video support.
  • Provide caption and transcript integration.
  • Explore synchronized text and audio.
  • Consider educational and presentation applications.

5. Applications beyond music

The player architecture could support:

  • Podcasts and recorded discussions.
  • Lectures and educational courses.
  • Language-learning audio.
  • Oral histories and interviews.
  • Poetry readings and spoken literature.
  • Museum and cultural collections.
  • Scientific recordings and sonification.
  • Sound art and experimental compositions.
  • Audiobook chapters and archival recordings.

The intention is to make the player a general-purpose media instrument rather than a music-only component.

6. Principles of development

The following principles guide future development:

  1. WordPress Media Library remains the authoritative source of media.
  2. Avoid unnecessary duplication of uploaded files.
  3. Keep the plugin lightweight and independent.
  4. No advertising, tracking or subscription requirement.
  5. Site identity remains under the control of the site owner.
  6. Preserve compatibility across common browsers and devices.
  7. Maintain open-source distribution under GPL-2.0-or-later, subject to completion of the licensing package.

7. Development history

  • Version 1.0.0: Original single-player foundation.
  • Version 1.0.1: Site-specific logo selection, improved branding and progressive music carousel.
  • Future versions: Playlist management, diagnostics, accessibility, additional media formats and archival integration.

Guiding principle: The Eskesthai Media Player should serve the archive, not become dependent upon a particular archive. It should remain adaptable enough for other builders to use, extend and maintain.

Proceed with the test post, but keep the published Music/Songs page unchanged.

Platohagel:  Okay can you master it now, as Media Player is being demonstrated with corrupt image . Also I wanted to create a carousel, where a option to include many songs, and load approximately 5 songs ready to play while the carousel loads another set of songs ready to be activated after approx 10 minutes. This then cycles through the whole list of songs never really requiring all songs to be loaded at one, and allows the beginning songs to play almost immediately?

Version 1.0.1 — First live test

Please test in this order:

  1. Logo: Does the Sunward Ventures — 2003 image appear correctly beside the player title?
  2. Single player: Does the song load, display its duration, and play?
  3. Controls: Do Play, Pause, and volume work?
  4. Carousel: Does the first group display five songs?
  5. Next group: Does the button advance to the next five?
  6. Sequential playback: Does the next song play when the current one finishes?
  7. Final group: Does the collection cycle back to the beginning?

One important distinction: The ten-minute interval stages the next group; it does not download all five audio files in advance.

Please give me the URL of your test post when ready. We will examine the actual result before making any changes to the established archive.
